不規則動詞ってなにもの？

中学生に英語を教えていると、

1年生の後半に過去形を習います。

その時に、規則動詞と不規則動詞を習いますよね。

 

大事な視点

 

ひたすら覚えればいいのだけれども、そもそもなんで違うの？一緒にした方がシンプルやん。

と誰もが思うはず。

 

まず、その視点が大事！！

 

不規則動詞と規則動詞の境界はなんなのか。

なぜ、揃えなかったのか。

 

かつては、例えば、

行く（はなれて）の現在形（三人称単数以外）・原形はgo

過去形はwent

なんだこの全然違う形は。

 

遊ぶは　play に played

 

うん。こんな感じでルール通りに、goも　goedにしたらいいやん。と

 

言語が作られていく過程にフォーカスしてみるとなんも怖くない。

 

 

なんと！昔は不規則動詞だけだった！

 

色々文化が発展していく過程で、たくさんの言葉がうまれます。

 

その中で一つ動詞を作るごとに、現在形・過去形・過去分詞形（中2の終わりに習います）を決めるのがめんどくさい！！

例えば、走るだったら、

run（ラン）  ran（レン）  run（ラン）

ってしちゃえー！

ってな感じ。

行くもなんだかわかんないけど、

go　went　 goneにしよう！

 

動詞が増えるごとにシンプルだったはずの英語が複雑怪奇なものへと変身していくのだ。

 

これは、、やばい気がする。。

 

よし！現在形だけは決めるから、あとはルール通りの変形をしようよ！そしたら仕事が3分の1になるじゃん！！

 

でもさ、本でもう私ranで書いちゃったよ。

今更変えられないわ☺

みたいな意見がでてくる訳。

今までの文献、全部書き換える訳にはいかないし、生まれてこのかた、それを使ってきた人にとっては無理な話。

 

 

規則動詞・不規則動詞の混在

 

よし！

じゃあ、今から作る動詞に関してはそうしまーす！！

 

こうして、昔から使われている不規則動詞と、新しく作られていった規則動詞が混在することになったんですね。

 

めでたしめでたしと。。

あーそうなんだーって納得しているようじゃ、まだまだだなー☺

よく使う動詞ほど不規則動詞なのに、play　や　study　はなんで規則動詞なの？

 

 

今の私たちには勉強することも遊ぶことも当たり前だけれども、昔の時代を考えたら確かに、身近なことではなかっただろうな。

働くworkというような概念もなかっただろうな。歩くwalkすらなかったのかと思うと、、過酷・・

 

そう考えてみれば、今まで、規則動詞・不規則動詞というのをめんどくさ！！て思いながら覚えていたけれども、

これは新しい動詞なのか！とか考えながらだとワクワクしますね☺

 

また、複雑な動詞ほど規則動詞であることが多いため、高校になってから初めてみるような動詞は規則動詞であることが多いです。

なのでしっかり中学の間に習う不規則動詞を覚えれば、ほとんどの不規則動詞を覚えられているので、高校英語でまたいろいろ覚えなければいけないのかとドキドキしている人は安心してくださいね★
