全か無かの法則　～ニーバーの祈り～

みなさん、”全か無かの法則”を知っていますか？

 

学校の生物の授業で神経伝達の話の際に出てくる内容ですね。

 

All or nothing　の日本語訳です。

英語の方がすっきりしていてわかりやすい。

 

何ごとも全て日本語訳をつければいいというわけではないなぁとつくづく思います。

 

どういうことかというと、閾値（いきち）を超えると反応はあるが、それ以下に関しては、大小拘らず、何の反応もないということ。

 

これがなんだけどれだけ合格点に近くても、実際に合格最低点に達していなければ意味がないということ。

 

果たして実際にそうでしょうか？

 

私も大学受験の前期試験で不合格になった経験があります。

確かに合格しなければ意味がないのは自分が一番わかっています。

しかし、努力した自分・知識はずっと残り、活かし続けられるのです。

 

All or nothingという言葉を人生に例えるのは間違いです。

 

私たちは現状に100％満足しているかと言えばそうではないかもしれないし、不満かと言われれば、そこまで不満を抱いているわけでもない状況が続きます。

それは万物が無常であるからです。

 

 

私たちは恒に変わりゆく自分という個の中で、その個が集まって作り上げる、これもまた変わりゆく世界で暮らしています。

 

無常を受け入れ、全か無かにこだわるのではなく、混沌とした世界の中で自らの責務を果たしていく。

たまたま、自分が全であったとしても、驕ってはいけません。

全と無の間というのは決して大きな差がある訳でもありません。

失敗してそこから学ぶことさえできれば、成功した人よりも何倍も成長できる訳です。

 

その意識を持ちながら過ごしていくことの尊さを理解していきたいものです。

 

最後に、私の好きな言葉を2つ紹介しておきます。

それを受けいれるだけの冷静さを与えたまえ。
そして、
変えることのできるものと、変えることのできないものとを、
識別する知恵を与えたまえ。

何度見ても本当に素晴らしい言葉です。私たちはそれを理解し、常に修正し続けなければなりません。

もう一つは私の中で大切にしている言葉です。

 

 

他者と比べた時点で敗者。

 

 

他人と比較した時点で自分の負けです。

他人の一部分を取り上げて、自分と比較し、悲観的に思う時もあれば、ある種のマウンティングをとってしまう時があるかもしれません。

しかし、どんなことに関しても自分より優れた人はいるのです。

つまりは、比較するという行為自体が間違っているのです。

 

比較をできるのは同じ土俵に立っている、過去の自分だけです。

昨日の自分よりも一歩前に。

それさえできれば必ず成長できますし、有意義な時間を使うことができるでしょう。

 

大切な言葉を持ち、常に自分の中に置くことで、自分を振り返る機会を作ることができます。

今日から実践していきましょう。
