昨日、個別指導で実施した英語の文章の内容を紹介したいと思う。

この内容はとても共感できるし、そうであるべきだと私自身も感じる内容である。

 

日本語訳はこうだ。

 

成功は人生において人が到達した地位よりも、むしろ成功しようと努力している間に克服した障害によってはかられるべきであるということを私は学んできた。

 

こういう価値のある文章から文法内容を学ぶことは本当に素晴らしいことである。

現在完了形などを文法的に、断片的に学んでいくのではなくて、まさに、こういうような人生の中で過去の出来事・経験を以て、今に焦点を当てている表現にこそ、現在完了形というものは使われているのだなと考えると、日本語にはない素晴らしい時制表現であることに改めて気づかされる。

 

私がこのような英語の表現方法の差に気付いたのは残念ながら学生という立場でなくなってからだ。

しかし今このように大学英語までを経験した自身が、もう一度、これから学ぼうとしている中学生や高校生にその楽しさを伝えられていることに喜びを感じる。

 

英語の奥深さを知り、これからを生きる若者には英語の能力を高めることは必須条件になることは明らかだ。

しっかり勉強を続けてほしいと心から願う。
