本を読み始めた人へ

本を読むことの大切さを私は授業の中で生徒に伝えることがよくあります。

実際に授業をしていう教室の後ろには600冊以上もの本が並んでいます。

一般的な本にとどまらず専門書もおいてあり興味を示し、借りていく生徒もいます。

読書を改めて始めてみると、よく言われることがあります。

それは、確かに読むことでおもしろいなと思う分野は増えました。

でも時間がかかるし、何か自分の人生にどれだけプラスになっているかがあまりわからないです。

この感覚、よくわかります。

確かに読み始めたときの私もそうでした。たまにおもしろくない本にあたるときもあり、なんか無理やり読んでいるような感覚もあったりと。

私の中で読書というもので自分の考え方・人生が変わったなと感じたのは300冊を読破した頃だったように思います。

実際に多くの人の言葉を知り、

とにかく、だれかにその内容を話したくなったんです。

人よりも本を読むことでいい本に出会うことが増えてきました。感覚的なものもありますし、ベストセラーは全く興味がなくても読むようにしたのも一つの理由だと思う。

素晴らしい本に出あうたびに、その内容を話せば、相手に必ずその本を読んでもらうことができるという自信がついたのだ。

自分の表現力で必ず相手がそれに興味を持つだろう。

そうこうしている間に、自分が本を紹介した相手から、

「次に何読めばいい？」

と聞かれるようになりました。

そうなると私自身も今までよりもたくさんの本を読んで、また素晴らしい本を紹介したいと思うようになっていました。

それから気づけば毎週本を購入して、3日に1冊のペースで本を読むようにしています。

外に行くときは本を持ち歩いて、いつでも時間があれば本を読む習慣がついています。

たった5分でも時間があれば本を出します。

本に投資することはまさしく自分への投資。

本を読んでいるときに自分にその時間があることに心から喜びを感じます。

本はただ他人に意見に耳を傾けているのではありません。

全ては自分との対話なのです。

自分はどう考えるのか。どうしてそう思うのか。何か過去の経験がそうさせているのだろうか。バックグラウンドには何があるのだろうか。

まさに読書は自分自身と向き合っている時間なのである。

しっかりと自分を見つめなおす機会を作るために読書の時間を作ってはいかがでしょうか。
